If you are coming on a trip to Lanzarote and not sure what to do, you must try surfing without any doubt.  Come and feel the energy of Famara beach in Lanzarote.

Idyllic beach, delicious local gastronomy, incredible views, red sunsets, and perfect waves. This incredible combination deserved a souvenir to make you relive all the sensations that Famara can offer.

Did you know that Caleta de Famara is in the heart of the Chinijo Natural Park?

Caleta de Famara is a small town on the island of Lanzarote, it is part of the municipality of Teguise and its prime tourist attraction is the Famara beach, but let’s take it one step at a time because Famara has a lot to offer.

The small fishing village of Caleta de Famara breathes peace. Unpaved streets of fine yellow sand, white houses with blue woodwork and incredible views of the imposing Famara cliff. Altogether, it is a magical place, one of those places where time stands still.

On Famara beach, waves are present almost every day of the year, both for beginners and experienced surfers.

One of the major attractions of Famara beach is that regardless of the day you go, you will most probably be able to surf or kitesurf.

This is the perfect place for beginners to try it, with plenty of surf schools and equipment rental. But if you’re an experienced surfer you’re in luck, as the multiple peaks in the back bring long-walled waves.

But if surfing is not your thing, you can sunbathe on the fine golden sand and admire the spectacular Famara crag, a brilliant plan to renew your energy and fill you with peace.

The Famara crag is 23 km long and is the highest point on the island of Lanzarote, with an altitude of 671 metres.

The Famara crag

The Famara crag is a mountain system of volcanic origin that forms an imposing cliff in the north of Lanzarote.
For the more adventurous, there are many routes full of caves and incredible views of Famara, Haría, the island of La Graciosa and the Natural Park of the Chinijo Archipelago. In the highest part of the island, there is a small forest, an ideal place for birdwatching, and if you are up for it, you can reach the beach of Mirador de las Salinas, one of the wildest beaches on the island.

My experience surfing in Famara

Famara is one of my favourite places on the island, both from the top of the cliff, where I can admire the views and rich endemic flora, as well as from the beach, enjoying the sea.

One of my best experiences was being able to enjoy the sunset from the sea while surfing.

If you have been there, you will have felt the tranquillity of the place. So, if you really want to sense Famara you can’t miss its sunset, the way the sun lights up the cliff and turns it a reddish orange; a view that becomes magical as you float in the sea.
